Our Story: The Origin of Sable du Temps
In 2012, we felt a spark of restlessness: we were ready for a real turning point in our lives. That was the starting signal for our adventure, which we named "Sable du Temps."
The Search
Our quest took us to France countless times. However, after viewing more than fifty authentic locations, we had almost given up hope. Our suitcases were already packed for the return trip to the Netherlands when, at the very last minute, we received a phone call: there was one more location in Montmoreau that we simply had to see.
To be honest, we were exhausted. But friends of ours, who were passing through and staying with us at a B&B near Cognac, insisted we go. Out of pure curiosity, we decided to take a look one last time.
Love at First Sight
Upon arriving in Montmoreau, the sky was a brilliant blue. We were led to a beautiful old building, hidden behind lush greenery. Catharina, who is usually never at a loss for words, immediately fell silent. There was an instant connection with both the house and the owner. After a thorough tour, our minds were already made up. Our plans aligned perfectly with the owner’s wishes, and she gave us the opportunity to make an offer.
The Rebirth of an 'Old Lady'
What followed was a period of constant traveling back and forth and a lot of hard work. Thanks to the help of many—with a special mention for the French craftsman Bruno Jardinet and his team—the building was restored to its former glory step by step.
Today, the "Sable du Temps" project is complete. The 'old lady' has been restored to her full splendor and is ready to welcome her guests.
